The Honors Program is an eight course curriculum that allows students to take honors courses in some of their general education requirements in some of their major requirement, and then all of our students will complete a capstone thesis project in their senior year. The standard for admission is really quite high. It's based largely off of the combination of your GPA and your SAT score. However, if you're a high achieving student here at St. Joe's after your first semester, there is a second application process where you can gain admissions to Honors. You can also participate in the Honors thesis process through your college or school. There are also great opportunities for independent directed research, both at the major level and through our Summer Scholars Program. Summer Scholars is really quite unique. Students have to identify a mentor, a faculty member who's going to basically direct their research during the summer, and then they receive a grant for $3,000. They have the opportunity to live here in student housing, and really focus for three months exclusively on a research project. We have a number of centers and institutes in addition to our college and schools, the Institute for Clinical Bioethics, The Faith Justice Institute, which is really committed to working with community partners. These institute's offer our students, a wealth of opportunities, not only for service, but also for team project based research.
