Internships, Co-Ops & Clinical Fieldwork

Experiential learning equips you with the critical traits sought by employers — not only expertise but a broad knowledge base, an appreciation for learning and interpersonal and leadership skills. Internships, co-op programs and clinicals unite the classroom and the workplace by providing students job experience while they are undergraduates. In particular, our co-op program places you in the workplace for two or more full-time, paid positions while you're still in college. You’ll have the opportunity to earn up to $30,000 and graduate in four years. More than 15 majors, including all the Haub School of Business programs, offer co-op placement.

By participating in these programs, you’ll be exposed to job opportunities that are educationally enriching and professionally meaningful. As a result, you’ll be a more competitive job candidate upon graduation.

Undergraduate students are able to participate in co-ops and internships. So whether it's a co op or an internship program, the students actually gain so much understanding of what goes on in an industry. They gain skills around just professional development. How do you act in meetings? I think the most important thing for the students is that they walk away with the confidence of, oh, this is how work is, this is how it works. I can do this, I actually contributed. When they write their resumes, they actually have a lot of really good value that they bring, they can articulate that value. And they just feel really good about what comes next for them.

I'd say I got some valuable experience from my internship. I was able to work on real work for a company and apply the lessons I've learned through my math and actuarial science courses here, in order to be able to solve problems and do real work for them.

It helps them to build their network, and it's important for students to be able to demonstrate that they have some skill sets and some knowledge beyond what they're gaining in the classroom when they're headed to graduation and starting to look for different jobs.

I highly recommend co-op for any student who was looking to get a job after graduation because then not only sets you apart from any other student who hasn't had any work experience in the industry, but it really gives you an opportunity to assure that you are studying the right major.
