Philadelphia College of Pharmacy

Founded in 1821 as the first college of pharmacy in North America, the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy is home to programs in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology and toxicology. The well-respected PharmD program, which features a direct-entry pathway for first-year students, joins undergraduate degree offerings in pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology and toxicology. Many students stay to pursue graduate degrees in pharmaceutics (MS, PhD) and pharmacology and toxicology (MS, PhD).

Industry powerhouses like McNeil, Lilly and Wyeth, who founded top pharmaceutical companies that still stand tall today, launched their careers at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. Through a hands-on approach and close collaboration with faculty who are leaders in the field, future pharmacists have the opportunity to learn from the best and be their best – from day one.

The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy is known throughout the world. It's definitely not just a local college of pharmacy and the history and the reputation of it is really what gets the student in the door. And I always ask them the question, How did you hear about us and they'll mention Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, and wanting to further their development and skills in drug discovery and development. All of our faculty are doing research. So there are so many grants, they're awarded grants, or they have also contracts, doing research for surrounding companies, whether they're local or a bit more distant. So they're experts into their field and the faculty are bringing their expertise of their field of research into the classroom. So under the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, there are different program opportunities for students. So whether a student enters as a BS level entry, they can join the program of Pharmacology and toxicology, they can join the program at Pharmaceutical Sciences. And as well these programs now have evolved to offer as well the four plus one program into the Masters,

Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, we do a lot of patients simulations and things such as sterile product preparation and actual hoods, and I've become very involved in research and it really gives me confidence knowing that when I go out into the world of pharmacy practice that I've done these things in the lab firsthand and I'm going to have confidence in my skills to be able to do them my career.
